About

Emily Singler, VMD

I am a veterinarian, a mom of 4, a lover of all things llama and alpaca, and a voracious consumer of chocolate.  I’ve been a mom for practically as long as I’ve been a vet, so I’ve been living the working mom life throughout my shelter, private practice, and relief roles over the years.  I now work as a veterinary writer, consultant, mentor, and author, along with wrangling teenagers and toddlers.

I had my first baby within my first year out of vet school. When I looked for evidence-based information about how to protect myself while working in veterinary practice during pregnancy and how to navigate postpartum life and returning to work, I was disappointed on how little I found. So I set out to create the types of resources I wished I had.

Vet Med Baby is one of these resources. It started as a general veterinary and animal blog, but it will now focus on working in vet med during pregnancy and as a parent.  Check back to hear the stories of others as well!

I also recently authored my first book, Pregnancy and Postpartum Considerations for the Veterinary Team, which is available now at www.emilysinglervmd.com/book

To further support working parents in vet med, I am also a RETAIN Parental Leave Coach. My goal is to  help guide individuals through their journeys and help employers find ways to support their personnel who are parents.
